The Indian Kitchen: A Camden Conference Event with Sandy Garson and Kathleen Sutherland

Feb 12, 2024 | Previous Events

The Indian Kitchen, with its recipes from the steamy wet Tamil tip near the Equator to the snow-sprinkled Himalayan peaks of Mughal Kashmir, is an illustrated history of the great sweep of humanity east and west along the Silk Road, in the spice trade and on religious campaigns. The worldwide spread of modern Indian cooking with its adaptions to local tastes maps the impact of an Indian diaspora. This presentation focuses on how history, geography and human habit made India so tasty, varied—and peaceful.

This presentation is hosted by the Patten Free Library in West Bath and offered as a free community event in anticipation of the 37th Annual Camden Conference – INDIA: Rising Ambitions, Challenges at Home, February 16-18, 2024, live at the Camden Opera House and live-streamed to the Strand Theatre in Rockland, Luther Bonney Hall at USM in Portland, and to homes and classrooms worldwide.
