Robin Wright

For more than a half century, Robin Wright has been one of the foremost experts on the Middle East, ranging from the region’s conflicts, rivalries, political trends, and economic challenges. She is the author of eight books on the Middle East. She is a columnist for The New Yorker and a former diplomatic correspondent for The Washington Post. She has been a fellow at the Brookings Institution, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the U.S. Institute of Peace, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars as well as at Yale, Dartmouth, Stanford, and the University of California.

Wright has reported from more than 150 countries on seven continents and been on the ground for a dozen wars, several uprisings, and revolutionary turning points. She has also written for The New York Times MagazineTIMEThe Wall Street JournalThe Atlanticthe Los Angeles TimesForeign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and many other publications. She has received numerous awards including the U.N. Correspondents Gold Medal for international reporting, the National Magazine Award, the Overseas Press Club Award for “exceptional courage and initiative,” and was selected as journalist of the year by the American Academy of Diplomacy. She is also a prolific analyst and fixture on prime-time news programs. Her publications include Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion across the Islamic World, which was selected as the Best Book on International Affairs by the Overseas Press Club, and Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East, which both The New York Times and The Washington Post selected as one of the most notable books of the year. She also edited The Iran Primer: Power, Politics and U.S. Policy and authored The Last Great Revolution: Turmoil and Transformation in Iran and Sacred Rage: The Wrath of Militant Islam.
