James Hengerer grew up in Albany, New York. He graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, followed by a Medical Degree at Albany Medical College. He then served in the United States Navy for nine years. During his tour, he received his residency training in Ear, Nose & Throat. He subsequently, practiced his medical specialty for 35 years in Lynchburg, Virginia. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Judy, moved to Rockland, Maine in 2015. They have four boys and seven grandchildren. He has summered in Maine, on Echo Lake, since his childhood. He has served on the Board of Directors of United Midcoast Charities, and has been Chairman of the Board, during the past four years. He has also been Chairman of the Development and Grant’s Committees in the past. He has also served, in the past, two terms on the Board of Directors of the Camden Conference, as well as, Chairman of the Development Committee.
