During a recent event at the Camden Opera House, Russian-born historian, writer, political scientist, radio and television host Sergei Medvedev emphasized, “What’s at stake in Ukraine is the future of the free world.” The evening was presided over by Camden Conference President Wayne Hobson and moderated by University of Maine Professor James Warhola. 

Known for his critical thinking and long-standing opposition to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Medvedev discussed Russian imperialism, authoritarianism, militarism, and the reasons behind the war in Ukraine, which poses a threat to the current world order. During the Q&A session, students from local universities and high schools who were in attendance, posed thoughtful questions. The event concluded with Dr. Medvedev signing copies of his book, A War Made in Russia.
