Maine + Congo: Building Sustainability & Stability

January 13, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm EST

Please join Merrill Memorial Library on Wednesday January 13th at 6:00 pm as we welcome writers from Portland’s Telling Room. Our program will begin with a short film entitled The Whole World Waiting. The film introduces us to young people who have traveled from all over the world to settle in Portland. The profiles bring the writers’ stories to life engaging the audience in a luminous view of the immigrant experience in Maine. Following excerpts from the film, students will read from their recently published book, A Season for Building Houses.

The Telling Room is a nonprofit writing center in Portland, Maine, dedicated to the idea that children and young adults are natural storytellers. Focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, The Telling Room seeks to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students. The Telling Room believes that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for future success.

This program is a free Camden Conference Community Event sponsored by Merrill Memorial Library, The Telling Room, and The Camden Conference.
