The Indian Kitchen: A Camden Conference Event with Sandy Garson and Kathleen Sutherland
January 26 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST
The Indian Kitchen, with its recipes from the steamy wet Tamil tip near the Equator to the snow-sprinkled Himalayan peaks of Mughal Kashmir, is an illustrated history of the great sweep of humanity east and west along the Silk Road, in the spice trade and on religious campaigns. The worldwide spread of modern Indian cooking with its adaptions to local tastes maps the impact of an Indian diaspora. This presentation will focus on how history, geography and human habit made Indian food so tasty, varied—and peaceful, and offer a taste of its cooking from a local restaurateur (in person only).
This program is presented live and on Zoom. Registration required for Zoom only.
To complement this program, the Patten Free Library will be offering Grab and Go Spice Kits in January, February, and March. Kits will include a variety of Indian Spices (including panchpuran, turmeric, cardamom, and curry leaves) as well as recipes. Kits are available the first Friday of the month as supplies last.
The program will be recorded and available for viewing after the program.
