“Global Trade and Politics: Managing Turbulence” discussion series @ Blue Hill Library

February 14 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until February 21, 2023

The Blue Hill Public Library will host a three-session discussion series in connection with the 36th Annual Camden Conference on three Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.: February 7, February 14, and February 21. This three-session in-person/hybrid series is a component of the Camden Conference community events program, in connection with the Camden Conference, “Global Trade and Politics: Managing Turbulence” which runs from February 17-19.

Facilitated by Bob Sargent and D. Scott Miller, these three sessions are intended to help participants achieve the most from participating in the conference by working through a list of questions and reflections about the topics that the facilitators deem to be relevant and provocative.

There is a reading list on the 2023 Camden Conference webpage. You can find a list of starter questions curated by the facilitators here.

Bob is a retired U.S. foreign service officer whose overseas assignments included Belgium, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Tunisia, Turkey and Vietnam. Born in China of missionary parents, he is curator of “China: Exploring The Interior, 1903-04” a traveling exhibit of photographs of late Qing dynasty China taken by Sedgwick native R. Harvey Sargent. Co-founder of a Maine-China network, Bob visited China most recently in November 2008, and participated in the publication of Mapping the Frontier, R. Harvey Sargent’s personal memoir. He is a former member of the Camden Conference Board of Directors and Advisory Board and a three-time conference program chair.

Scott is a retired international banking executive whose overseas experience includes several years in Great Britain.

All are welcome to attend this free discussion series, although space is limited and registration is required. Join in-person in the Howard Room by registering through the library’s online interactive calendar, or call the library at 374-5515. For more information, please email Kayleigh at kayleigh.thomas@bhpl.net. Materials recommended by the Camden Conference are available to check out from the library in print and digital formats.
