Why America Misunderstands the World~ Discussion Group in Castine

February 7, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST

Witherle Memorial Library’s monthly Foreign Affairs discussion group will meet at the library in Castine at 41 School Street on Wednesday, February 7 from 5 to 6 pm.

The topic for this month is taken from Paul Pillar’s book “Why America misunderstands the world’. The moderator is Professor Kenneth Hillas, After retirement in 2013 from the State Department as a Senior Foreign Service Officer, Ken has taught at U. Maine’s graduate school of Policy and International Affairs.

To understand how the world is changing, it is helpful to understand the lense through which we perceive the world, because this often leads to an interpretation of events and forces that differ from that of others.  This is no less true in terms of how we interpret changes to the global order.  We have a copy for use within the library. Pillar’s book is also available on interlibrary loan or from online bookstores.  Alternatively, here is a  YouTube link to a lecture he gave at Georgetown University on the same subject.  Pillar is now a professor at Columbia University after 28 years as an intelligence analyst with CIA.
