The Beauty of West African Music with Gray Parrot
January 14, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

On Thursday, January 14th, from 1-2 p.m. funded by the Friends of Witherle Memorial Library, at UU Parish House in Castine, singer-songwriter and deejay Gray Parrot will give a presentation on the unique sound of West African music, and how it differs from our own. Gray will incorporate CDs, guitar, and the African instrument the balafon to demonstrate West African polyrythms, syncopation, language, and dance, and how these principles can be translated to our own music. This program is in support of the Camden Conference’s 2016 theme, “The New Africa.”
Gray Parrot hosts a long-running program on WERU called Jammafrique, featuring a pleasing mix of Jamaican Reggae and West African Vibe, which airs Thursdays from 10 p.m.-12 a.m.
