The Camden Conference presents Marie Tessier at the Belfast Free Library on Tuesday, October 22 at 6:30pm. Marie is a women's engagement evangelist moderating comment to the Opinion pages of NYTimes and contributing to the TakingNote blog. Her ambition is to bring women to equal participation in news comments by the 2020 centennial of the 19th Amendment. This event is free and open to all. Marie Tessier works at the intersection of democracy, news and interactive media as moderator of reader comment to the Opinion pages of NYTimes.com, where she is an authority on including women's voices. She is writing a book for MIT Press, "Suffragist: Women, the Web and the Future of Democracy," 2019. She was a women's engagement strategist with the Coral Project, a collaborative software development project of the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Knight-Mozilla OpenNews that is now owned and operated by Vox Media.…

The Front Page: A History of the News from Town Criers to TV–100 minutes with Mac Deford and Tom DeMarco

Mac Deford and Tom DeMarco are back for a thirteenth 100-minute History Roadshow for 2020!  Each year they choose as their topic something at least vaguely relevant to the subject of that year’s upcoming Camden Conference.  It is informative, humorous and above all entertaining. The show will take place Thursday, January 23, 6:00 p.m. at the Portland Public Library, Friday, January 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House and Sunday, January 26, 2:00 p.m. at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center in Belfast.   No advanced registration is necessary, but donations are appreciated. Tom DeMarco is the author of fifteen books (his speculative novel, The One-way Time Traveler, is the latest) and a Principal of The Atlantic Systems Guild, a technology think tank with offices in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.  Mac Deford is a retired Foreign Service officer with service primarily in the Middle East.  He had a subsequent career…
