The Camden Conference presents Matt Ward at the Freeport Public Library on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30pm. Join us for a crash course in U.S. and Chinese relations. This talk will cover all of the salient issues, similarities, differences, myths, facts and fallacies in the relationship between the two countries. This talk is free and open to the public. Matt Ward is a retired Foreign Service Officer.  He is the former President of the World Affairs Council of Maine and has been an Adjunct Professor at the USM School of Social Work where he taught multicultural social work, and in the Political Science Department where he taught modern Chinese politics.  He currently lectures on international issues and consults on cross-cultural matters. The event will be rescheduled to Wednesday, January 23 at 6:30 pm. The Camden Conference presents Kyle Tong at the Vose Library in Union on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 pm. His talk will be "Chinese Education: 20 Years of Evolution from Catch-up to Leadership." This event is free and open to all. York Public Library Hosts Book Discussion: China’s Evolving Middle Class

One can’t read or listen to the news today without noticing a headline about China. In December, York Public Library featured a program on China and its role as a global superpower. On Wednesday, January 9, a follow-up program and book discussion will explore China as a country experiencing growing pains and the cultural, social, and economic conflicts that arise from such growth. The program will be presented by Edwin H. Pierce, former social studies teacher at Marshwood High School, in conjunction with the Camden Conference 2019. Attendees are encouraged to read beforehand the 2014 book, Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China, written by Evan Osnos.
