Odeon Chamber Orchestra Performs work by Chinese Composer, Chen Yi

The Camden Conference, in partnership with the Bay Chamber Concerts, is sponsoring a concert by the Odeon Chamber Orchestra at Union Hall in Rockport on February 26 at 6:30 pm. The evening's performance features a chamber work by Chinese Composer, Chen Yi, accompanied by a short video of the artist discussing her work with commentary by Odeon conductor, Deidre McClure. Also on the program are works by Charles Ives and Edward Elgar. The concert is free and will be followed by a reception with the musicians. As a prolific composer who blends Chinese and Western traditions, transcending cultural and musical boundaries, Dr. Chen Yi is the recipient of the prestigious Charles Ives Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2001. She is the Cravens/Millsap/Missouri Distinguished Professor at the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and UMKC Kauffman Award in Faculty Service (2012)…

Join us for a taste of the Camden International Film Festival experience!  CIFF’s inaugural Cabin Fever film fest will take place March 1 + 2 at the Camden Opera House, and will include 4 brand new feature docs screenings, and a special “best of” their beloved Dirigo Docs shorts program. Camden Conference will co-present Meeting Gorbachev, Werner Herzog’s new film on the life of the eighth and final President of the Soviet Union. This film with be presented on Saturday, March 2 at 1 pm. Here is a link to the film preview. “Is This China’s Century?” (Discussion Series @ Blue Hill Public Library-Part 3)

The Blue Hill Public Library will be holding a three session discussion series hosted by former U.S. Diplomat Bob Sargent, in connection with the 32nd annual Camden Conference. The sessions will take place on three dates: Monday, February 11th, Tuesday, February 19th, and Monday, March 4th, all from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The Camden Conference runs from February 22nd to 24th in Camden, between the second and last discussion sessions. The BHPL discussion series is free, but space is limited, so registration is required. This series is designed to help participants achieve optimal benefit from participation in the Camden Conference. In the first two sessions, participants will consider a list of questions deemed relevant and provocative to the theme of the conference, which this year is “Is This China’s Century?” In the third session, participants will review and discuss findings and recommendations that surfaced during the Camden Conference. Jenny F. So, Chinese art historian and Adjunct Professor, Department of Fine Arts, University of Hong Kong, guides participants in a consideration of historic Chinese jades, ceramics, and paintings from Bowdoin’s collection, discussing authenticity, quality, and cultural context.
