Welcome to the Camden Conference Study Guide to the 2014 Camden Conference: The Global Politics of Food and Water
This Study Guide covers the Curriculum Enrichment Program (CEP) for the 2014 Camden Conference discussing issues affecting world access to food and water. The CEP was created in an effort to make the Camden Conference materials more accessible and user-friendly to teachers and students. Supported by grants from The Emanuel and Pauline A. Lerner Foundation and the Maine Humanities Council, this set of materials provides not only specific indexing of talks presented at the 2014 Camden Conference, but also a structure and orientation for the study of international relations that will open exciting learning opportunities for teachers and students in the classroom.
To help teachers who seek to foster critical thinking about citizenship in a globalized world, we have focused on four key components discussed in the presentations of various speakers at the 2014 Camden Conference. These components provide structure to the study of international relations using this guide. These components are:
In the pages that follow, you and your students will find an Index of video clips from the 2014 Conference organized according to the four components above. Each video clip ranges from 2-15 minutes in length. An introduction to each component explains how it relates to the study of international relations. The introduction and video clips are followed by a list of questions for reflection and discussion. We have made these questions broad and general in order to encourage students to consider the similarities in the different issues discussed in the pages that follow.
Four earlier Study Guides, organized around these same four themes, are also available to teachers who wish to expand their students’ study of these themes into other international contexts:
- Study Guide to the 2013 Camden Conference, The Middle East: What Next?
- Study Guide to the 2012 Camden Conference, The U.S. in a 21st Century World: Do We Have What It Takes?
- Study Guide to the 2011 Camden Conference, The Challenges of Asia
- Study Guide to the 2010 Camden Conference, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India: Crossroads of Conflict
