Volunteer

The Camden Conference is a volunteer-run organization. With a paid staff of one, we depend heavily on volunteers to make the annual conference and community events happen.

We are seeking volunteers to serve on the various committees that plan the conference as well as to assist with the February conference, facilitate community events, and do office support tasks such as preparing mailings and entering data. Below is a list of the committees that plan and execute the annual conference and their functions. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact the Camden Conference office.

Community Events Committee

Maintaining the year-round schedule of Conference-related events is year-round work. The Community Events Committee is led by Maureen Stalla and three team captains based in Belfast, Rockland, and Camden. The committee is searching for someone to be a team captain in the Blue Hill area.

Development Committee

The Development Committee is responsible for raising money from individuals, businesses and foundations to fund The Camden Conference. Members work with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to establish a budget and then determine fund-raising goals for the year. The Development Committee meets at least monthly to monitor and discuss fund-raising progress for the current year.

Education Committee

The Education Committee involves colleges and high schools in the Camden Conference, collaborating with educators to produce Conference-related events. The Committee also works with colleges to encourage the planning of topically relevant courses to attract students to Conference events. A long-range goal of the Education Committee is to make it possible for educators and professionals to earn Continuing Education or Professional Development credits for attendance at the Conference or associated special events.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is comprised of the officers of the Board: the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Chairpersons of standing committees may also be involved. Duties include supervision and performance reviews of the Administrative Director; interviewing and hiring recommendations for staff; overseeing the daily operations of the organization and making emergency policy decisions (those which cannot wait until the next time the entire Board of Directors meets).

Finance Committee

The Treasurer of the Board is chairman of the finance committee and appoints others to the committee. The committee writes a budget for each fiscal year; seeks Board approval for that budget; keeps track of expenses and revenues; makes recommendations to the Board about financial matters and makes recommendations about operations based on current and projected financial figures.

House Committee

This committee has four subcommittees. Venues & Volunteers arranges volunteer staffing at each Conference-operated venue for the duration of the Camden Conference. Catering & Hospitality arranges meals and other special catered events during the Conference. Audiovisual prepares an A/V budget for the Conference and oversees all functions related to the recording and preparation of video and audio archives. Administrative tasks of the House Committee are handled by the Administrative Director. These include signing contracts, paying bills, reserving venues and arranging for materials needed by other committee members.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee recruits potential members for the Board of Directors and presents their names to the Board for approval.

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee emphasizes community awareness about the Camden Conference and its associated activities, including consistent branding and working with the media. The Marketing Committee handles Conference publicity (advertising, underwriting programs on radio stations, etc.) and creates posters, programs and the annual Conference Highlights publication. Members also work to ensure that all information disseminated by the Camden Conference through its website, press releases or other outlets, is accurate.

Program Committee

Starting almost two years ahead of the event, the Program Committee selects and recommends the overall theme for each Camden Conference. Once the Board approves the theme, the Program Committee arranges topics or speaking slots to fill out a coherent program, secures speakers for the program and arranges transportation and hospitality for all speakers. The Program Committee works closely with the Community Events, Marketing, and House Committees.

Technology Committee

The Technology Committee includes members with technical expertise in a variety of fields, ranging from audiovisual to software and the Internet, who serve as a review board for potential technological purchases or investments including, but not limited to: computers and peripherals; costly high-level professional software (such as donor databases, professional-quality photo editing/design software, etc.); major website upgrades and any technological equipment purchased for the purpose of broadcasting or archiving Conference-related materials. The role of technology in future Conferences and the Conference's financial investment in technology will be significant in coming years. The Technology Committee was formed to protect these assets.
