The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars offers a nonpartisan forum for free and informed dialogue -- fostering research, study, discussion, and collaboration among a full spectrum of individuals concerned with policy and scholarship in national and world affairs. To strengthen fruitful ties between the world of ideas and the world of public affairs, the Center encourages contacts among scholars, policymakers, and business leaders and extends their conversations worldwide through its publishing, broadcasting, and Internet programs. While supporting research on topics throughout the humanities and social sciences, the main focus is on topics in history, political science, and international relations.

The Weatherhead Center

The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University examines the world's condition in an era when: "Foreign affairs ... pose unprecedented tasks ... no region is isolated; none can be ignored; actions and events even in remote places may have immediate worldwide impact... Nowhere do traditional attitudes fit the new realities... notions of sovereignty and independence need revision to apply to a world where a nation's level of life or survival may depend as much on the actions of other countries as on its own..." Encouraging the highest practical level of interaction among a community of scholars and practitioners, the Center stimulates a vigorous dialogue among scholars and nonacademic experts with a wide array of seminars, research programs, workshops, and conferences.

The Pew Forum: Religion and World Affairs information page

The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, launched in 2001, seeks to promote a deeper understanding of issues at the intersection of religion and public affairs. The Forum pursues its mission by delivering timely, impartial information to national opinion leaders, including government officials and journalists. As a nonpartisan, non-advocacy organization, the Forum does not take positions on policy debates. The Forum functions as both an information clearinghouse and a town hall. As a clearinghouse it tracks and aggregates news and conducts independent research, including surveys, legal backgrounders, reports, books and Q&A interviews. As a town hall, it provides a neutral venue for discussion. In these roles, the Forum serves as an important information resource for political leaders, journalists, scholars and public interest groups.

The National Institute for Public Policy

The National Institute for Public Policy devotes its agenda to assessing U.S. foreign and defense polices in today's new and changing environment. The static, bipolar Cold War model of international behavior no longer holds. The basic assumptions behind decades of U.S. foreign and defense policy need drastic rethinking. Supported by public, corporate, and private foundation grants and contracts, NIPP focuses on a wide spectrum of rapidly evolving foreign policy and international issues. NIPP studies emphasize the qualitative factors having a significant impact on the U.S. position in the world, and offer carefully researched prescriptions for necessary adaptations in U.S. policy.

The Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis

The Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis is a nonpartisan research and strategic planning organization specializing in national security issues, foreign policy, political economics, and government-industrial relations. The Institute and its subsidiary, National Security Planning Associates, provide tailored briefings for government agencies, military planners, and corporate executives; public forums for the broader discussion of issues critical to the U.S. policy-planning process; policy recommendations for dissemination to a wide audience of key policy makers; and quick-reaction assessments of breaking events. IFPA is associated with The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University.

The Hudson Institute

The Hudson Institute competes boldly in the debate of policy ideas, seeking to be America's premier source of applied research on enduring policy challenges. The Institute works to counsel and guide change -- applying its ideas whenever possible alongside other leaders in communities, businesses, non-profits, and governments alike. Sharing optimism about the future and a willingness to question conventional wisdom, the institute demonstrates commitment to free markets and individual responsibility, confidence in the power of technology to assist progress, respect for the importance of culture and religion in human affairs, and determination to preserve America's national security.

The Council on Foreign Relations

The Council on Foreign Relations is an independent and nonpartisan center for scholars to develop and disseminate ideas so that individual and corporate members, as well as policymakers, journalists, students, and interested citizens in the U.S. and other countries, can better understand the world and the foreign policy choices they face. The Council does this by arranging for senior government officials, global leaders, prominent thinkers, and its fellows to debate and discuss the major issues. It also encourages CFR fellows to make concrete policy recommendations, and to conduct special programs to foster expertise in the next generation of foreign policy leaders.

The Century Foundation

The Century Foundation seeks to persuade those who care about issues such as economic inequality, homeland security, domestic discontent with government and politics, and national security that significant improvements are possible even when the conventional wisdom says they are not. Post 9/11, TCF has published numerous articles about homeland security, developed a favorably reviewed book entitled "The War on Our Freedoms: Civil Liberties in an Age of Terrorism", and co-sponsored a major conference putting forward new American strategies for security and peace.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies

The Center for Strategic and International Studies is dedicated to providing world leaders with strategic insights on -- and policy solutions to -- current and emerging global issues. Nonpartisan, its researchers and support staff address the full spectrum of new challenges to national and international security, maintain resident expertise on the world's major geographic regions, and develop new methods of governance for the global age. The Center has programs on technology and public policy, international trade and finance, and energy, while Pacific Forum CSIS serves at its gateway to Asia.

The Cato Institute

The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets and peace. To that end, the Institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government. The Institute's extensive publications program deals with the complete spectrum of public policy issues, examining issues in nearly every corner of the public policy debate.

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting an active U.S. engagement in world affairs. Through research, publishing, convening, and, at times, creating new institutions and international networks, Carnegie associates shape fresh policy approaches, seeking practical results. Their interests span geographic regions and the relations among governments, business, international organizations and civil society, focusing on the economic, political, and technological forces driving global change.

The Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs

The Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs is the world's premier forum for research and education in ethics and international policy. A nonpartisan organization, the Council provides a home for those who seek to explore the ethical dilemmas posed by issues such as deadly conflict, human rights violations, environmental protection, global economic disparities, and the politics of reconciliation. By providing a forum for many of today's most highly regarded experts, and a home for discussions of international affairs that might not otherwise take place, it does have an indirect impact on policymakers shaping today's--and tomorrow's--worlds.

The Brookings Institution

The Brookings Institution is an independent, nonpartisan organization devoted to research, analysis, education, and publication focused on public policy issues in the areas of economics, foreign policy, and governance. Its goal is to improve the performance of American institutions and the quality of public policy by using social science to analyze emerging issues, and to offer practical approaches to those issues in language aimed at the general public. Brookings serves as a bridge between scholarship and policymaking, bringing new knowledge to the attention of decision-makers and affording scholars greater insight into public policy issues.

The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research

The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research is dedicated to preserving and strengthening the foundations of freedom--limited government, private enterprise, vital cultural and political institutions, and a strong foreign policy and national defense--through scholarly research, open debate, and publications. AEI research covers economics and trade; social welfare; government tax, spending, regulatory, and legal policies; U.S. politics; international affairs; and U.S. defense and foreign policies. AEI is strictly nonpartisan and takes no institutional positions on pending legislation or other policy questions.

Middle East Institute

Since 1946 the Middle East Institute has been an important conduit of information between Middle Eastern nations and American Policy makers and organizations. From its founding in 1946 until today MEI has worked to increase knowledge of the Middle East among its own citizens and to promote understanding between the peoples of the Middle East and America.
